We were taken from a kingdom

Where the rivers shone like silver
In undying lights of home

At the King upon his throne

But the darkness came upon us
Filled with promises and lies
That led us from our homeland
We followed, deaf and blind
To a land of pain and sorrow

Where our hearts cried out in anguish
For the place where we belonged

For years we toiled in shackles
Hope was lost in history
The kingdom we’d been made for
Seemed no more than a dream

The King across the sea

THE CAVE
I followed up the rocky trail
To the place I knew we’d meet
Past the cedars and through the clouds
Alone on weary feet
Until at last I reached that cave
The hollow where I knew you’d be
But alas I could not hear you there
And solitude surrounded me
I just need direction, to know which way to turn
I just want to hear your voice, hear you utter one more word
A wind tore past the mountain peaks
A roar surrounded me
The ground it shook under my feet
And wildfires blazed beneath
But where were you throughout the storm?
That left me full of awe
Humbled there I felt so small
But couldn’t hear your voice at all
I just need direction, to know which way to turn
I just want to hear your voice, hear you utter one more word
Let me know your heart, that’s all I ask of you
Just a quiet whisper, a single word will do
Then when at last the silence fell
I stepped out of the cave
And in the silence your still small voice
Spoke to me and said:
“My child, how are you? What is on your mind? Through the wind and through the storm I never left your side”
Your voice spoke peace and comfort
Your voice guides my way
It strengthens and sustains me
Oh how I need your voice again
Let me know your heart, that’s all I ask of you

NEST
A collection of broken pieces
From piles of fallen remnants;
Torn, shattered, lifeless looking substance
Caught in cobwebs, stuck in holes, left to decay.
But this, in itself, is precious treasure to the one who knows best
As he seeks to build his beautiful nest.
He swoops down low and redeems the mess
He reaches into dusty holes, and picks out what’s left.
He sees life and charm and warmth and rest
And carries it all to the place he calls nest.
Many Journeys, many trips, to save the bits that make the nest
A piece might fall and drift to the ground
No-one knows the heart-ache that he feels now
Or the plans or the purposes of the one small piece
That slips through the beak of the master
Who seeks to save and love and nurture.
Wounds and scars and attacks he endures
As foes steal, tear down and destroy.
But his courage and drive to gather and build
Are far stronger than the enemy, to whom he will not yield.
In pursuit of providing safety and rest
The master continues to pick up the mess,
And carry it to the place he calls nest.
Piece upon piece is put into place
And with love and such amazing grace,
A nest is formed from nothing but waste
It’s inviting, it’s warm, it’s calling us in.
The nest is open for anyone to own
For everyone to call…home
